Water overtops the Industrial Canal levees in New Orleans as Hurricane Gustav passes just west of the city.

The Industrial Canal connects Lake Pontchartain, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico, and the Mississippi River. During a hurricane water is pushed into the lake and surges through the Industrial Canal. During Hurricane Katrina one side of the levee on the Industrial Canal was broken by a barge left in the channel flooding the Lower Ninth Ward.
