Kangaroo paw fern (Microsorum diversifolium) growing as an epiphyte on a fallen tree branch in a damp gully in the Dandenong Ranges, Victoria, Australia. This is the mature foliage of the fern; at earlier stages of growth, the fronds are simple and entire, the diversity giving rise to the specific name. The plant is growing on the moist substrate provided by a layer of moss covering the bark of the branch. M. diversifolium is not hardy outdoors in the UK, but makes an attractive house plant.
