The textiles of this collection are of nativemake, and in many instances impossible of duplication, since thedisplacement in this market of foreign goods at lower cost isresponsible for the gradual disappearing of the articles in ques-tion. There is also shown here a native loom of most primitiveconstruction, and yet capable of producing remarkable clothsfrom the raphia fibre. Side by side here are found foreign-madecloths resembling closely the Madagascar manufacture, both intexture and design.
