Smithsonian Castle Visitor Center, with the Enid A. Haupt Garden in the foreground

Located on the National Mall in Washington, DC, and completed in 1855, "the Castle" is the oldest of the Smithsonian Institutions buildings, and now houses Smithsonian administrative offices and a visitor information center. The building was place on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1966. The Enid A. Haupt Garden opened in 1987 and is named after Enid A. Haupt, who provided the $3 million endowment which financed its construction and maintenance.
