Amsterdam Jordaan. Streets and bridge in the Jordaan district with cyclists cycling in the sun. Westertoren in the background.

Tweede Egelantiersdwarsstraat; Hilletjesbrug bridge and Eerste Leliedwarsstraat in the Jordaan district of Amsterdam. The church tower is De Westertoren. The Westertoren (Western Tower) is the highest church tower in Amsterdam, Holland (the Netherlands). Building finished in 1637 The design was by the famous Dutch architect Hendrick de Keyser, but finished by probably Jacob van Kampen in a different shape. This was the tower Anne Frank was able to see from her room in the 'Achterhuis' and chiming of the carillon was a source of comfort to her as mentioned in her diary. The crown topping the spire is the Imperial Crown of Maximilian I of Austria. The Westertoren is the symbol and icon for Amsterdam, more specifically for the Jordaan district. Strictly speaking the church and tower are situated just outside the Jordaan, which boundary at this side is formed by the Prinsengracht Canal in front of the church tower. Many songs, tales and poems mention the Jordaan being under or in the shade of the Old Wester (Oude Wester) as it's affectionately known.
