Bergenia cordifolia is a spring flowering perennial with delicate pink bell like flowers and large leathery green leaves often tinged with purple. The leaves are evergreen and remain on the plant over the winter protecting the new flower shoots. The texture and size of the leaves are the source of the common name elephant's ears.
