Alexander Woollcott, American critic, raconteur, and radio presenter, early 1930s. From 1929 until 1934 Alexander Humphreys Woollcott (1887-1943) wrote a column titled Shouts and Murmurs for The New Yorker magazine. Between 1933 and 1938 he presented 'The Town Crier', a radio show for CBS.
