Portugal, Lisbon: Dettail of the manueline style at the cloister of Jeronimos Monastery

The Jeronimos Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jeronimos) in Belém is one of Portugals most important examples of Manueline architecture style. It was built in the 16th century and shows a curious mixture of styles. The ornaments in the cloister include many impressions and themes of the new world which were being reported of the first navigators and discoverers as exotic animals, plants, mythic figures of the sea and others.
