1910 - An old portrait photograph of George Robey playing a pantomime Dame in a Drury Lane production. George Robey was known to his fans as 'The Prime Minister of Mirth' on radio . His real name was Sir George Edward Wade, CBE (1869 –1954). The English comedian, singer and actor played in musical theatre and was also one of the greatest variety, music hall and pantomime performers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, starring in the Royal Command Performance in 1912. In addition he was a semi-professional sportsman, playing cricket & football & starred on stage in Shakespeare
