Construction working finishing off some roofing, with building in corner, Wellington, New Zealand (Maori Waka /Wharewak house)


An $12 million canoe / waka house, designed to look as if a Maori cloak has been thrown over the roof, is to be built on Wellington's waterfront, New Zealand. wharewaka to house two historic Maori canoes, and be a centrepiece for world cup celebrations. The building on the capital's waterfront will also be a showpiece for celebrations for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. The $12 million facility will eventually hold two canoes. The area, within walking distance of the stadium, will be transformed with marquees, bars and big screens into Wellington's party central. "The centre of any party in Wellington is the waterfront, and add the wharewaka to the facilities already here, with the fan-zone, what a great venue for a party."
