Pedestrian access to the IKEA store on the site of the old Croydon Power Station in South London, England

IKEA is the world's largest furniture retailer, probably best known for its flat pack, self-assembly furniture. The company was founded in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad in Smaland, Sweden, with the name being the initials of his name, his childhood home and his home parish. The chain has 313 stores in 37 countries. The store at the Valley Park Retail Area in Croydon is on the site of the old Croydon 'B' power station. The local council made it a condition that the landmark chimneys were to be retained, but IKEA were allowed to paint the tops in their corporate colours.
