Chaucer at the Court of Edward III. By Ford Madox Brown (1821-1893). This was Ford Madox Brown’s largest and most ambitious painting and was exhibited in 1851. It shows Geoffrey Chaucer (c 1343-1400) reading his "Legend of Custance". Amongst those in attendance are: Edward III, Edward, the Black Prince, Alice Perrers and John of Gaunt.
