Amsterdam wall plaque - canal barge

Wall plaques (Dutch: gevelstenen) are carved stone plaques set into the walls of buildings in Amsterdam and some other Dutch cities. 'Gevelstenen' were introduced before house numbers and they often combine an image with an inscription. Some illustrate the profession of the owner.
