Salt pans in Lanzarote, Canary Islands. Salt production involves pumping water in to the pans and allowing it to evaporate leaving the salt which can then be collected. Salt pans may exhibit different colours due to microorganisms that react with the salts or the presence of algae. Those in the image are subtle shades of purple and pink.
