He was elected member of parliament in 1854for the county of Grey, being the first representative from that the exception of two parliaments, he continued to represent that con-stituency until 1882. Mr. Jackson exercised discretion and judgment inallotting settlers their free grants in Bruce, and was nuich respected andadmired by both friends and opponents. He died March 6th, 1885. -This part of the Durham line was chopped, but not logged, during thesummer of 1849. i.
