Crohn's disease, drawing

Illustration of the autoimmune disease, Crohn’s disease. There is an imbalance in intestinal microbiota due to the absence, or low quantity of the Faecalibacterium prausnitzii bacterium, which is usually found in intestinal flora. Pathogenic bacteria colonise the intestinal epithelium, resulting in an inflammation which causes chronic ulceration of the mucus membrane. The affected areas are the colon, the terminal section of the ileum and the anus.
