Juan Luis Vives was born in Valencia Spain but spent most of his life in Southern Netherlands. His ideas about education, emotions, memory, and learning formed the basis of later ideas of Psychology. He was born into a family that converted from Judaism to Christianity during the Spanish Inquisition but many in his family were executed anyway. He left Spain and never returned.
