Teguise civil defence TOYOTA vehicle on the island of Lanzarote,canary Islands, Spain,- January 2020. Civil protection or civil defense in Spain began on August 12, 1949 , via Protocol 1 additional to the Geneva Treaty to be involved with the "Protection of victims of international armed conflicts", and to complement the work of the Red Cross. Today they are involved in everything from traffic management and rescues to local disasters. In this case they were blocking cars from parking in streets close to a regional market. The colour orange is also used by rescue vehicles.
