The abbey of San Nicola.(Rodengo-Saiano/ Brescia-Lombardy)

The abbey of San Nicola is one of the most impressive monastic sites in Italy. It was founded in the 11th century by Cluniac monks but passed into the hands of the Olivetans in the mid-15th century until its suppression in the Napoleonoc period (1797). The Abbey is built around three large cloisters (the oldest one is from the XV century with decotated glazed tiles). Inside, in the refectory there is a Crucifixion by the Foppa school; the antirefectory is frescoed by Lattanzio Gambara. Frescoes by Romanino are in the guestroom refectory. read more : (Rodengo-Saiano)
