Endocardium tissue, fluorescence deconvolution micrograph. Fluorescent dyes have been used to highlight tissues, cellular structures and proteins: endocardium (red), cell nuclei (blue), connective tissue (green). The heart is a hollow muscular pump, and the endocardium is the innermost layer. It contains calcium receptors that help trigger the contraction of the heart muscle. Theconnective tissue is part of the much thicker myocardium, the muscular part of the heart.
