Detroit, Michigan - A Moroccan-inspired central courtyard, or Riad, in Detroit. The courtyard is intended as a communal gathering space in a larger co-operative development of homes and businesses. The organizers of the project hope to show that a Detroit neighborhood can be revitalized by local artists, residents, volunteers, and nonprofits rather than by outside corporate interests.
