Exposed chamber stones of Pant y Saer Neolithic tomb on a limestone plateau above Benllech, Anglesey, looking SSE to Snowdonia.

Exposed burial chamber stones of Pant y Saer Neolithic tomb set on a limestone plateau above Benllech. Looking SSE over the forecourt area of the former kidney-shaped cairn with the Snowdon range on the mainland to the rear. The capstone has slipped E & the W sidestone is missing. Pottery & other offerings were found in the forecourt, some placed against the N slab. Used for burials over a long period, the remains of 54 persons - Neolithic men, women & children including 9 full-term foetuses - were placed in the chamber in the 3rd millennium BC. In the 2nd millennium BC a stone cist with 2 Bronze Age inhumations & a beaker were inserted into the chamber; the chamber's W sidestone may have been used to cover the cist.
