Poverty in Johannesburg South Africa Hendry Hlangwana lives along the Jukskei River, which is polluted, and collects scrap metal

The City of Johannesburg’s infrastructure services and environment committee recently released the findings of its water-quality testing from August to October 2011. The report outlines that water conditions in the Jukskei River were so poor that anyone using the water would be exposed to harmful pollutants. For Hendry Hlangwana, he has no other option but to drink and use the river water. He lives closer to the centre of Johannesburg near the river by 1st Avenue in Parkview.
