It isalso called the Silver Tip and among sportsmen Old Ephraim. The polarbear is somewhat larger than the grizzly, but the two are equal in strengthand ferocity. The grizzly frequendy reaches a length of eight feet and some-times a thousand pounds in weight. Its claws are curved, very strong andoften six inches in length. The poor ill-fed creature in the Zoo is but a verybedraggled caricature of the wild animal. One day some hunters found the tracks of a large grizzly and proceededto capture it in a way which is somewhat questionable from a sportsmansstandpoint. All bears are fond of honey and the grizzly especially so. Sothese hunters got a large block of honeycomb and thoroughly soaked it withwhisky. The bear soon smelt the dainty and came up and eat it. It wasnot long before the whisky began to take effect, and the bear appeared a littleunsteady on its feet. Then it grew drowsy and lay down to sleep off theeffec
