Despite there having been no rain recently, according to the Thames Water interactive discharge map, they were discharging from their storm overflow this morning at the Blacknest Pumping Station in Sunningdale, Ascot, Berkshire. The storm overflow feeds into nearby Virginia Water lake, part of Windsor Great Park. Although the water in the area contains iron bacteria (Sphaerotilus-Leptothrix) that feeds on iron in water forming rust coloured red iron oxides, there was some sort of pollution in the nearby streams. Environmentalists are calling on the directors of polluting water companies to be imprisoned as the fines water companies receive are clearly not acting as a deterrent.
