Eyam church in the village that fell victim to the bubonic plague in 1665

Eyam village is notable for the plague of 1665. When infection reached the village the inhabitants put themselves into quarantine to help reduce the risk of spread of the disease. Many villagers died. Some of the cottages are noted as homes to plague victims. The church holds a celtic cross in the graveyard and a distinctive sundial is mounted on a wall. During the plague church services were held outdoors at Cucklett Delf - a small cave just outside the main village.
