Cooling Church
Cooling Church, on the north Kent marshes, is the setting for the opening scene of Charles Dickens novel 'Great Expectations'. Dickens was inspired by the 13 children buried here under lozenge grave It is here that Pip first encountered Magwitch, a criminal who had escaped from a prison hulk moored in the nearby Thames estuary.
