Two bull hippopotamus battle over territory and dominance in the waters of the Selinda Spillway, Selinda Reserve, Botswana.

Hippo have large canine and incisor teeth that are used for combat and play no role in feeding. Here, a resident male expertly positions himself beneath an intruder so he can use his strength and teeth to show his dominance. The challenger was able to jump upwards and away from this confrontation so he only suffered flesh wounds before the dominant male chased him off downstream.
