The Hastings herring, mackerel and Dover sole fisheries hold MSC accreditation. This means they have met the strict Marine Stewardship Council requirements for sustainable fish stocks, a healthy marine environment and effective management. The two Hastings fisheries were given the accreditation in September 2005. They were the 5th and 6th fisheries in the UK to receive the award. There are only 14 certified fisheries worldwide. When you buy fish with an MSC logo, you are assured that the fish has been caught in an environmentally sustainable way with a chain of custody between fishermen and the final seller.
