Many British absentee landlords in 19th Century Ireland, realized they could get a higher income by turning their properties to pasture than to continue with the old practice of collecting rents from tenant farmers. The most common way of getting rid of unwanted tenants was by eviction, a practice aided by the RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary) as seen here in Connemara, County Galway.
