he statue of Cro Magnon Man looks out over the Dordogne river and countryside from above the town of Les Eyzies, famed for its prehistoric finds and as a settlement for early man. The statue is also known as the Neanderthal Man. It was created by Paul Dardé, a famous French sculptor, in 1931. He entitled it "The Primitive Man". It was criticised initially but has since become accepted and a symbol of Les Eyzies and its connections with early mankind.
