A Balkan-Turkish ceremonial axe, 18th century Iron axe head with a curved blade. Surrounded on all sides with cut and silver-inlaid vine ornamentation. Square, wooden helve covered with shagreen leather sewn on one side with brass wire. The two ends have silver sheet ferrules profusely embossed with relief decoration. Length 66 cm. Cf. a similar piece dated from the 17th century in the Collection of Charles Buttin, catalogue no. 611, Plate XIX.
