The African wild dog, Lycaon pictus, also known as the painted dog because of the animal’s colouring which features patches of black, brown, white, red and yellow fur. Each animal has a unique coat pattern. They live and hunt in packs and are extremely social animals, sharing food and communicating by touch, actions and voice. The animal is endangered because of encroachment by people into their territory as well as disease spread by domestic animals.
