Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Drugstore beetle larva (Stegobium paniceum). The drugstore beetle is a common pest that can infest almost any dry animal or plant material, especially grain products. It is usual pest of pharmacies where it infests drugs and breakfast foods, biscuits and herbs. The female lays about 75 eggs amongst stored foodstuffs during a life-span of 40 to 90 days. The adult does not feed or cannot fly. Magnification: x6 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
