Master Musician Yim Saing plays the Kloy at his home in Phnom Saing was born in 1922. At the age of 16 years old, his grandfather and father taught him how to play five woodwind instruments, including the khloy and sralai. Today, Yim Saing is known as the "King of the Wind Instruments" and a master of flutes; he has taught these instruments to most of Cambodia's traditional Kloy, (Cambodian flute) is said to have originated from around the seventh century. Records of its existence have been found in carvings on ancient stone pillars, dating from around the year 611 Living Arts works to support the revival of traditional Khmer performing arts and to inspire contemporary artistic expression. CLA supports arts education, mentorship, networking opportunities, education, career development, and income generating projects for master performing artists who survived the Khmer Rouge as well as the next generation of student artists.
