Coir rope production. Village woman twining coir fibres together to make rope. Coir is a coarse fibre derived from tissue surrounding coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) seeds. Rope is produced from white coir, which is obtained from immature coconuts. White coir is used to make mats, baskets and sound-proofing material. Photographed in Mararikulam, Kerala, India.
