African anhinga (Anhinga melanogaster rufa or Anhinga rufa) preening. This waterbird, also called the African darter, has a long snake-like neck and dagger-like bill that is used to catch fish. It uses its webbed feet to swim underwater. Often, only its head and neck are visible above the water, leading to its other name of snakebird. The African anhinga is found around water in tropical sub-Saharan Africa.
