Johannes Gutenberg (1398-1468) was a German goldsmith and printer in Strassbourg, Germany. He is credited with developed a method for making metal type for printing, hence he is often referred to as the inventor of the printing press and movable type. He is perhaps best known for his printing of what is known as the Gutenberg Bible in 1455. His accomplishment was developing the technique and making it available.
