The Holocaust Memorial, near the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, commemorating all the Jews who died at the hands of the Nazi regime


The Holocaust Memorial or, to give it its full name, Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe (Denkmal für die Emordeten Juden Europas), in central Berlin, near the Brandenburg Gate, commemorates all the Jewish victims of the Nazi regime. It consists of 2711 blocks of dark gray stone of different heights rising up from undulating ground. After 17 years of discussion, planning and construction, it was finally opened on 10th May 2005.
