It is very close to the Queen's Gallery, Palace of Holyroodhouse, Scottish Parliament Building and the ruins of Holyrood Abbey. In the 16th century White Horse Close was the site of the Royal Mews and stables, known then as Davidson's Close and Laurence Ord's Close. It was renamed by Ord in honour of Queen Mary's white palfrey horse when he built an inn here and rebuilt the tenement. In the 18th century the close contained the headquarters of the Jacobite officers, while Bonnie Prince Charlie resided at Holyrood Palace. Today, White Horse Close is residential, and some of the apartments may be rented out as holiday apartments, putting visitors right next to all the Royal attractions, just a mile from and very close to .
