The Dardanelles is narrow, natural strait waterway located in northwestern Turkey. Troops stormed the heights on the Gallipoli Peninsula in February 1915. During the Gallipoli Campaign, also known as the Dardanelles Campaign, the Battle of Gallipoli. Total Allied deaths included 43,000 British, 15,000 French, 8,700 Australians, 2,700 New Zealanders, 1,370 Indians and 49 Newfoundlanders.
