An 1886 portrait of Henry Morton Stanley (born John Rowlands; 1841 – 1904) who was a Welsh born explorer, politician, journalist, soldier, colonial administrator and author , famous for his exploration of Central Africa and his search for David Livingstone , the missionary and explorer, Stanley was born illegitimately though his father is named as " ....bastard son of John Rowland of Llys Llanrhaidr (Wales) and Elizabeth Parry of Castle. Abandoned by his mother he spent his early life in a workhouse.
