1925 ENGLISH DERBY WINNER - Steve Donoghue riding the winning horse MANNA, a British thoroughbred racehorse and sire who also won the 1925, 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. Manna was a bay horse bred in Ireland by James J. Maher at his Confey Stud in County Kildare. His owner H Morriss (a bullion broker) said that the horses name was given to him because he was a Heaven-sent gift! - Steve Donoghue (1884 – 1945) was a notable Lancashire-born flat-race champion jockey. It is said that he decided to take up the profession after winning a prize for riding a circus donkey.
