Kaposi sarcoma is associated with infection with human herpes virus 8 (HHV-8 or KSHV) a sexually transmitted virus. Typical lesions are purple non-tender symmetrical macules plaques or tumors on the skin or mucous membranes. The tumors appear as bluish-red or purple lesions on the skin. They may first appear on the feet or ankles, thighs, arms, hands, face, or any other part of the body.
