The false door from the tomb at Saqqara of Neferseshemptah, married Teti's daughter—early Sixth Dynasty (2300s )


Most ancient Egyptian tombs had a false door such as this one. Here family members would leave offerings for the deceased who sometimes was shown emerging from the door. This one is from the tomb of Neferseshemptah at Saqqara. He married the daughter of Teti, first ruler of the Sixth Dynasty (2300s ). The door is limestone, painted red to simulate wood or granite. On either side is a full length statue of Neferseshemptah, Above the entrance is the bust of Neferseshemptah.
