Grave of Cecil Rhodes, British businessman and politician in Africa, Southern Rhodesia, 1924 (1927). Artist: Thomas A Glover

Grave of Cecil Rhodes, British businessman and politician in Africa, Southern Rhodesia, 1924 (1927). A print from Cape to Cairo, by Stella Court Treatt, George G Harrap & Company Ltd, 1927. The book was an account of the first successful journey by motor vehicle from Cape Town to Cairo, accomplished by Stella Court Treatt and her husband, Major Chaplin Court Treatt, in 1924-1926. They are shown visiting the grave of Rhodes, who was an enthusiastic supporter of the notion of a permanent overland route traversing Africa from north to south, although he favoured a railway over a road.
