M13 - Great Hercules Globular Cluster

M13, also designated NGC6205 and sometimes called the Great Hercules Cluster, is considered the most spectacular globular cluster in the northern skies. Discovered by Edmond Halley in 1714, it was cataloged by Charles Messier in 1764. It is barely visible to the naked eye on dark nights and appears so large and bright because it is actually large and bright and also relatively close, at around 25,000 light years. M13 probably contains more than a million stars and has a diameter of 165 light-years
