Sea Mouse - Aphrodita aculeata

Sea Mouse Aphrodita aculeata Length to 20cm Unmistakable marine invertebrate. An atypical scaleworm, hardly recognisable as a worm at all. Lives part-buried in sand at extreme low water; sometimes stranded. Adult has oval body, scales hidden by dense coat of bristly hairs; dorsal ones are flattened, lateral ones are iridescent. Widespread, locally common offshore, very occasionally washed up after winter gales.
