Light micrograph of squamous cells. Squamous cells line the skin and other mucosal surfaces in the body. This image shows a layer of squamous cells cut in horizontal cross section. The squamous cells are arranged around round areas, which correspond to projections called papilla that contain small blood vessels. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 400x when printed at 10cm.
