A bust of Vladimir Lenin at Grutas Park nr Druskininkai souteast Lithuania

Vladimir Lenin was one of the main leaders of the communist revolution in Russia. Statues of him - and many other communist leaders - used to be seen all across the USSR. However, when Russian communist control collapsed in the Baltic states in the late 1980s and early 90s almost all these statues were destroyed. In Lithuania, however, one entrepreneur bought up many of the statues of communism's heroes and set them up in a park near the town of Druskininkai. The park is known as Grutas Park, and is now one of Lithuania's most popular tourist attractions. This image shows one of the park's most famous busts of Lenin.
